I would recommend a USB microphone over anything else because they have a very clean sound to them and less analog conversion on the motherboard part. I have used the USB mic that came with Rock Band with excellent results. You can get a similar mic (it’s made by Logitech) for less than $ 50. You can also get a pro-style microphone with 1/4″ jack and convert it to mini jack with varying success. The cheaper the mic, the worse the quality.
